FULL MOON NIGHT TREKKING operates exclusively in Baltistan. All of the staff have lived or worked in the area, enabling us to combine our experience and contacts to make our treks as interesting and flexible as possible. Our treks are in no sense comparable to "organized jeep and sight seeing tours" offered elsewhere. All treks will include not only hiking and camping, but also opportunities to learn about local wildlife and culture. Most treks will include at least one night staying in a local village, or staying with shepherds on the high pastures. Your local guide and porters will do much more than simply show you the way and carry your bags; they will share their knowledge and experiences with you as you go along. We try to keep our trekking groups small (2-8 people) to enable closer and more individual contact to guides and locals.

FULL MOON NIGHT TREKKING is a flexible trekking company, and we will work with each client or group to arrange a trek which will suit their particular requirements. Some clients already have a specific trek in mind which we are happy to arrange for them, whereas other clients simply have an idea of the type of trek they would like to do, and we are able to help them decide on a trek which will fit in with what they are looking for.

We also have a selection of three specially designed treks which our clients can choose from, which will enable them to combine exciting trekking, interacting with local people, and learning about the local culture and the environment. The three treks are:

Bookings are currently being made for the 2009-10 season.

Once you have made your arrangements with us, all you have to do is get yourself to Islamabad, Pakistan's capital. There are daily flights from Europe, North America and the Middle East. At Islamabad Airport you will be received by the FMNT staff who will put you up in a local hotel (up to 4 days after arrival and 4 days before departure - depending on how long you want to stay in Islamabad, and on weather conditions) and organize travel to Skardu, Baltistan's capital and starting point of all our treks, for you.

You should bring a warm sleeping bag, backpack, warm clothes, and hiking boots. Other equipment such as tents, crampons, climbing gear etc. will be provided by us.

Prices will be worked out according to group size, length of stay, time of travel, etc.. Included in the price is:

  • An experienced trip leader
  • Double occupancy in good hotels
  • Meals while trekking
  • Local transport starting from Islamabad by plane, bus or jeep
  • Sightseeing and entrance fees
  • Cooks, crews, porters
  • trekking/tour fees and permits
Not included in the price is:
  • International travel (to and from Islamabad)
  • Health & travel insurance
  • Hotel meals
As mentioned, we invest a proportion of the profits earned from the treks in Project Snow Leopard. We are also working on a number of other projects, including raising local awareness about general conservation issues, improving livestock management to reduce the incidence of predation, and also to enhance tourism related infrastructure in villages; upgrading pasture huts and trekking routes, installing rubbish bins and training local people in tourism management. In some cases, we might ask our clients for additional contributions towards those activities.
